In 1973, the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as Women's Equality Day.

Women’s Equality Day typically focuses on celebrating women gaining right to vote along with discussions about employment and pay disparity. But there are many other women’s equality issues that impact women and their families every day. From childcare and schooling, emotional labor and mental load, to other economic issues such as unpaid roles like housework or eldercare, and many other gender disparity issues, all have amplified due to the pandemic. It has also compounded equality issues related to women and intersectionality for black, indigenous, and people of color, transgender women, and LGBT+ women. Over the past year, many of these less-discussed issues impacted not just women, but the entire workforce. With so many of us still teleworking and continuing to deal with challenges presented by the pandemic, traditional support networks women have relied upon have become less effective. The Newport FWP wanted to use Women’s Equality Day to shore up some resources for women so they feel supported as our world continues to evolve in new ways.
This collection of resources is a work in progress. We will be adding to them, so please send your additions to Research Commons Email.
