Databases
David Taylor Model Basin ReportsThe David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) is one of the largest ship model basins — test facilities for the development of ship design — in the world. It is currently operated as a field activity of the Carderock Division, Naval Surface Warfare Center. Major research conducted at DTMB includes ship bow, hull and propeller design, ventilating fans, development of naval aviation, and computational methods for use in hydrodynamics. This database provides access to nearly 1,000 reports produced at the DTMB.
Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Public SiteThe Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC®) serves the DoD community as the largest central resource for DoD and government-funded scientific, technical, engineering, and business related information available today.
ScopusScopus is the world’s largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, including scientific journals, books and conference proceedings, covering research topics across all scientific and technical disciplines, ranging from medicine and social sciences to arts and humanities.

MIT Laboratory for Ship and Platform FlowsResearch at the LSPF focuses on the modeling of free surface flows past conventional and high-speed vessels and the estimation of their resistance and seakeeping in deep and shallow waters. Recent studies have concentrated on the coupling of hydrodynamic simulations with modern optimal control theory for the minimization of the motions and the fuel efficient navigation of high-performance and conventional vessels in a stochastic environment. These studies encompass the development of analytical and computational techniques, including the use of the state-of-the-art SWAN (ShipWaveANalysis) Software Suite.
MIT Marine Hydrodynamics LaboratoryThis lab is dedicated to the study of all aspects of marine hydrodynamics. The main facility is a variable pressure recirculating water tunnel that is capable of speeds up to 10 m/s. Experiments with conventional and novel propulsion devices, drag reduction using MHD (magneto-hydrodynamics), flow control by unsteady swimming motion and flapping foils, offshore cylinder testing and vortex-induced-vibrations are performed using state of the art measurement techniques and instrumentation. The facility is supervised by Professors Professor Michael S. Triantafyllou and Alexandra H. Techet.
