ASIAN AMERICAN AND PACIFIC ISLANDER (AAPI)

HERITAGE MONTH

The United States observes Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month each May to pay tribute to the contributions, accomplishments, and history of those with Asian and Pacific Islander heritage bring to the nation. The purpose of this guide is to introduce visitors to library resources such as books and digital collections, as well as other resources that highlight these many contributions. It is celebrated in May to commemorate two important events: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869.
